Common questions.
Quick answers for working with JSON in RomitJSON, from formatting and validation to privacy.
What is JSON?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a text format for representing structured data. It is commonly used by APIs, apps, and configuration files.
How do I format JSON online?
Open the JSON Formatter, paste your data or open a JSON file, choose an indentation style, and format it. You can then copy or download the result.
How can I check whether JSON is valid?
Use the JSON Validator to parse the text and see a readable error when the syntax needs attention. Formatting also checks whether the input is valid JSON.
Does RomitJSON upload my JSON?
The tools read and process the JSON you enter or open in your browser. The site does not send that JSON to a RomitJSON server. The YAML converter loads its conversion library from jsDelivr; see the privacy and data handling page for details.
Can I compare two JSON files?
Yes. Open JSON Compare, add both documents, and review the differences in your browser.
Can I convert JSON to CSV, YAML, or XML?
Yes. Use the JSON to CSV, JSON to YAML, or JSON to XML converter. Each page explains the available options before you download the result.
Can I generate TypeScript types from JSON?
Use the JSON to TypeScript converter to create TypeScript declarations from a JSON example.
Why is my JSON invalid?
Common causes include single quotes, unquoted object keys, trailing commas, missing commas or colons, and unclosed braces or brackets. JSON requires double-quoted strings and keys, with lowercase true, false, and null. Use the JSON Validator to locate syntax errors.
Is valid JSON automatically valid for my API?
No. A JSON syntax check confirms that the text can be parsed. API validation may also require a schema that defines allowed properties, data types, and required fields.
What is the maximum JSON file size?
RomitJSON tools accept JSON files up to 50 MiB. Large documents may take longer to process and use more memory in your browser.
How do I convert JSON data to a spreadsheet?
Use the JSON to CSV converter for an array of objects. Choose how to handle nested fields, select a delimiter, and download the CSV for spreadsheet software.
Is RomitJSON free to use?
Yes. The tools are free to use in a modern browser and do not require an account.
